EAGLE-eyed motorists will have noticed the placing of CCTV cameras on a busy road in Letterkenny.
CCTV cameras are currently in situ at the College Road and College Farm Road junction of the town.
A sign taped to the pole holding the CCTV cameras states: ‘CCTV images are being recorded for the purpose of compilation of traffic data for statistical purposes. This scheme is controlled by IDASO Traffic Survey Ltd.’
IDASO is a company which specialises in providing traffic, transport and mobility data for use in strategic planning, traffic impact assessments, property management and retail assessments, along with optimisation of existing transport management systems.

The development comes following a recent appeal to An Coimisiún Pleanála by concerned residents on College Farm Road and Glencar Road after planning permission was given the green light for the construction of two residential buildings comprising 15 apartments.
We contacted the Mullingar-based company to ask if the erection of the CCTV camera was connected to the planning appeal. A spokesperson told us: “We are a company that collects traffic and non-motorised user data on behalf of our clients.
“We have reached out to our client to ask if they are willing to release any further details regarding the purpose of the survey.”
