Trad band feature in advert encouraging move to Donegal

TRAD band Jiggy who are set to headline the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny on Saturday night have featured on a new advert encouraging people to pack up and move to Donegal.

Robbie Harris, one of the band members, said he is really looking forward to returning to Donegal, he fondly recalls the time he spent in both Glenties and Gaoth Dobhair.

Through his personal work he has played and toured across the world with famous Donegal faces such as Moya Brennan, Clannad and Mairead Ní Mhaoinaigh. He joined Clannad for their reunion in Christchurch Cathederal in Dublin accompanied by a stunning string orchestra.

But this is Jiggy’s first time playing in Donegal and their first gig back on stage in 2023, so they are bursting with energy and “really looking forward to getting back on stage”.
Jiggy perform high energy music, “which is built for festivals,” Robbie explained. The Regional Cultural Centre is even removing all of the venues seating for the gig as they anticipate a lot more than a few tapping toes.

“We will just need to make sure everybody has comfortable footwear on their way in the door, we can even have a few spare pairs of runners,” he laughed.

They have previously played with Cathal Ó Curráin a young talented musician from Gaoth Dobhair, Robbie explained how he has been their musical connection to Donegal.

Jiggy’s upbeat tunes featured on a Donegal.ie advert which launched this week as part of a drive to get people to move to Donegal.

Donegal.ie is run by the Economic Development Unit of Donegal County Council, their aim is to promote the endless opportunities the county offers, for business, adventure and relaxation.

The video showcases the county, giving them a glimpse of what is on offer and really to encourage people to come and live in Donegal.
