Tractor transports medical staff to work during Gaoth Dobhair flooding

A TRACTOR driver had to transport nurses and doctors to their workplace after flash flooding hit Gaoth Dobhair on Monday morning.

A high tide coupled with a yellow weather rain warning led to the severe flooding which caused dangerous driving conditions and significant disruption locally.

One of the worst-hit spots was the road opposite the Derrybeg Health Centre, which was completely flooded.

The building houses the Public Health Nurse, the Community Intervention Team and NowDoc.

The HSE later announced that appointments scheduled in the Health Centre were cancelled as the building was inaccessible.

In a statement the HSE apologised for any inconvenience caused to service users impacted by the cancellations.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Sinn Féin Cllr John Sheamuis Ó Fearraigh praised the local tractor driver for safely transporting medical staff to and from work.

Cllr Ó Fearraigh who was present at the medical centre on Monday morning liaised with Donegal County Council and the Office of Public Works (OPW) to coordinate emergency assistance and clean-up efforts.

The road opposite the Health Centre in Derrybeg was hit with flash flooding on Monday.
