Tourists ‘missing’ Downings due to lack of signage

THE lack of signage around Downings is resulting in some tourists ‘missing the town.’

That’s according to local councillor John O’Donnell who called on the council to erect additional signage on the Atlantic Drive to direct tourists to the main route to Downings.

He said some tourists are going the wrong way and are missing the turn off for the town.

He said, “It would be a shame if some people were driving on the Wild Atlantic Way and missed Downings due to a lack of signage directing them to the town.

“If they are not familiar with the area they could miss the town altogether so I would like to see more signs erected on the road,” said Cllr O’Donnell.

A spokesperson for the Council said, “A review of the location concerned is being carried out. There are directional signs for both the Wild Atlantic Way and the Atlantic Drive at the Junction. A suitable location for the erection of an Advance Directional sign is being considered and if identified arrangements will be made to give traffic prior warning of the junction.”
