‘Tough drive’ from Letterkenny didn’t dampen the Wolfe Tones’ performance at EP

THE Wolfe Tones gave a phenomenal performance at Electric Picnic on Sunday despite driving over four hours to get there.

The exhausted band members had driven 330km from Letterkenny after headlining Summer Sessions on Saturday night.

The world’s most famous republican band, made up of members Brian Warfield (78), Tommy Byrne (80) and Noel Nagle (80), went straight to the Electric Picnic site at Stradbally, Co. Laois the next day as part of their 2024 Farewell Tour.

Despite describing the experience as “fantastic”, the band members didn’t stick around for long after their performance missing out on the opportunity to meet Sunday’s headline act, Kylie Minogue.

As reported in The Star earlier this week, the band’s youngest member Brian said they were “very tired” after playing in Donegal the night before.

“We had just arrived in Stradbally that day after going down from Letterkenny.

“I had to stop in Monaghan for a coffee and the carried on.

“If I didn’t have coffee, I don’t know.

“I needed the coffee to keep me awake.

“It is a tough drive,” he said.
