THE people of Tory Island have now been cut off from the mainland for over a week.
High winds and seas have prevented the daily ferry service from operating since Wednesday of last week. And with basic supplies running low the Coastguard helicopter from Sligo was, this week, tasked to deliver essential items onto the storm-battered Island.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Manager of the local co-op, Comharchumann Oileán Thoraí, Ms Bridget McGarvey explained: “We haven’t had a boat out since last Wednesday, and we’re hoping that the service might resume if there is a lull on Friday, but the forecast is very bad. We are used to being cut-off but it has been over a week now and supplies were getting really low.”
