Top trio for final concert in Trad Trathnóna series

Donal Lunny will be joined by John McSherry and Pádraig Rynne in Dunlewey.

FOR its final concert in this summer’s series of Trad Trathnona, non profit promoters Tionscnamh Lugh have three of the top musicians in the country coming together next Tuesday, August 28 at Ionad Cois Locha, Dunlewey.

Dónal Lunny, founding member of Planxty, the Bothy Band and Moving Hearts needs very little introduction. Considered to be one of the more influential people in the renaissance of Irish music in the last half century, Donal Lunny has been playing Irish music for most of that time.

He has been producing albums of Irish musicians and singers since the ’70s and has written music for many films and theatre productions.

Pádraig Rynne is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today being described by The Irish alphabet stew as one of the freshest sounds in Irish music.

Born in County Clare, Pádraig grew up in a house steeped in Traditional Irish Music. In his early years Pádraig won five all Ireland titles as well as three Oireachtas titles.

John McSherry is hailed as one of the finest exponents of the art of uilleann piping in the world today and is described as being at the forefront of modern innovation.

John was a founding member of top trad bands Tamalin, Lúnasa and At First Light as well as lead instrumentalist with Dónal Lunny’s ground-breaking super group Coolfin, which also included Sharon Shannon.
