ONE of the top football referees in the county has hung up his whistle due to family reasons and a shift in mentality towards officials.
Letterkenny man Liam McLaughlin is a grade one referee and has taken charge of League of Ireland Under 17 and Under 19 matches as well as big fixtures in the Ulster Senior League and Donegal Junior League.
However, he now wants to devote more time to his family, and feels a small minority are making the role very frustrating for referees.
