KENNY Crawford will compete for the Glór Tíre title tonight after securing the judges’ vote in the semi-final.
The Porthall man performed two songs on last week’s TG4 talent trek – Black is the Colour in Irish and Keith Urban’s Somebody Like You.
He was first through on the night and now goes into this evening’s final as one of the favourites.
“I enjoyed it although it was a bit nerve wrecking because I did the song in Irish first and during the initial rehearsal I blacked out and couldn’t remember the words.
“But once the camera is on you the mind seems to go into protective mode almost and you manage to get the words out. Thankfully that is what happened and I didn’t show myself up,” he said.
Kenny Crawford has been performing live for 25 years. After joining the band New Beats he later carved out a solo career before teaming up with Mickey Joe Harte and Finn Drumm. They spent several summers playing in Tenerife’ bars and clubs.
On his decision to enter Glór Tíre, he said he did so in the hope of bringing something different to the Irish country music contest. Tonight he could be crowned overall winner, picking up a €5,000 cash prize and a week of gigs in Portugal this summer with Mike Denver.
“I’m content now that I’ve reached the final. I’ve always said that if I made it that far I would be happy.
“We’ll just have to wait and see where it goes after that but there are plans for an album,” he added.
