Tonight is Culture Night

Culture Night 2015 programme
Excitement is mounting today with the final touches being put in place for this year’s Culture Night which will take place from 6pm this evening.

This year’s Culture Night promises to be another great evening of free family entertainment in cultural venues and community spaces in Letterkenny and the Gaeltacht.

“Culture night is a national event and is taking place in towns and cities across the country on the same evening and this is Donegal’s 7th occasion to host Culture Night” says Eileen Burgess, Divisional Manager for Cultural Services in Donegal County Council.

“I think the secret to Culture Nights success is its simplicity. Although a lot of organising takes place behind the scenes, it is an evening where young and old can stroll from one venue to another, sampling what Irish culture and heritage has to offer and best of all it is completely free”.

“It’s also a great opportunity for cultural venues to showcase what they have on offer and to find out more about some of the wonderful cultural gems we have in the county, such as the County Museum, the Regional Cultural Centre and Leabharlann Phobail Ghaoth Dobhair.”

“We have a diverse programme of performances, events and exhibitions available to the public and our programme is centered around Letterkenny Town Park, the County Donegal ETB Music Education Partnership, Leabharlann Phobail Ghaoth Dobhair, An Grianán Theatre, the Regional Cultural Centre, The Artworks, The Central Library, Donegal County Council Heritage Office, the County Museum, St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Conwal Parish Church, Create-A-Link Art Studio, ArtCo Gallery, The Swell Festival, Donegal Youth Service at The LOFT and the Save The Church Lane/Cathedral Quarter Group”.

“In Mín an Leá, Gort a’Choirce you will be treated to an eclectic night of literature, song, music and film.

“Darach Ó Scolaí of the publishing house Leabhar Breac will launch Cathal Ó Searcaigh’s new poetry collection, ‘an Bhé Ghlas’ and well known actor Gerald McSorley will read the poems of Patrick Kavanagh and other poets. There will also be traditional singing by Diane Cannon and a series of short films in Gaelic by local, young film-makers, Daniel and Máirín Butler.
