THIS weekend a new monthly original music night will opens its doors in Letterkenny with three of the best original acts in Donegal and the North West.
Greenroom Live Music, is a newly developed live music backroom at Voodoo/INK, Main Street, that will play host to a new monthly original music concept to help showcase some of the country’s new and established.
The Greenroom will give artists a platform to play their original music in a perfect live music venue.
To launch the monthly concept Greenroom Live Music has teamed up with A Thousand Trip State (ATTS) a brand new Music Collective from right here in the North West.
ATTS was formed by members of In Their Thousands, Mark Black & the Trips and The Heads Of State, all Donegal bands, in early 2012. The three bands joined together to share their resources as they set about releasing and promoting their own original music.
ATTS also encourages musicians and bands to work together to share their collective experience which can be mutually beneficial. But they are now relying on music fans and other bands and musicians alike to get involved and create what could be a very useful and exciting resource original music.
Mark Black said: “It’s about time we had a return to the great live music scene that was once Letterkenny, and no better place than upstairs from the infamous Downtown venue which was once the focal point of the local music scene in the 80s and 90s.”
Mark Black has formed, The Trips, featuring Brendan McGlynn and Seamus Devenny and with his new album is bringing you a very edgy new rock sound. Listen out for his brand new single Ghosts In The Fire.
Heads Of State have gathered a very loyal following in Donegal and received great acclaim further afield with some of the catchy, harmony driven singalong singles released inlcuding Hands Dirty.
While Mark Black and Heads Of State have been firm favourites amongst music fans for quite some time, this is a chance for us to get to know In Their Thousands a litte more on this occasion.
In May 2011 four friends from around Donegal rented a house in the village of Ramelton and started writing, recording and rehearsing original material. Over the course of the summer this project became In Their Thousands.
The writing and recording session from last summer grew into the material on the bands debut EP which was released at the Earagail Arts Awakening festival on February 3 in the plush settings of Rathmullan House. The EP is the first of a quartet of four track EP’s to be drip fed by the band in 2012.
The band’s sound can only be described as diverse. With the songs coming from all band members their live set changes from stunning vocal harmony laced acoustic folk to edgy electric alternative rock in a seamless progressive crescendo.
The Greenroom Live doors opens its doors this Friday, April 13, at 8.30pm and first act will take to the stage at 9pm sharp. Early birds will get the seats. Tickets for the night are available from the bands at a cost of €5 per person with all the revenue is going back into the artists’ development.
