Lady luck was on the side of Michael T McCusland, Clonbara, Falcarragh when the ticket bought for him by his mother, Eillen as a Christmas present in the Comhar Creidmheasa Ghaoth Dobhair draw came out of the drum, scooping the top prize of a stylish Hyundai Kona Hybrid Car.
The draw took place on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta ‘Barr Scéalta’ programme on Friday.
The programme presenter Michelle Nic Grianna rang him to relay the good news.
Michael T, a son of Michael and Eilleen McCusland, is a care worker at Falcarragh Community Hospital.
He said he was enroute to Roarty’s Garage, Dunlewey when his phone rang.
“An unfamiliar number came up on my phone and I decided to pull in to take the call,” he explained.
“I got the shock of my life when Michelle told me that I won the car. It was a Christmas present from my mum and I am over the moon.
“This is the best Christmas present I ever got and I will certainly be ditching my own car now and will be driving around in comfort.
“I wish to thank my mum for that great Christmas present and also wish to thank everyone who sent good wishes on the day. I have received hundreds of good will texts and messages”.
There were also cash prizes won in the draw and the lucky winners were: €1,000 each: James Cookie O’Donnell, Annagry, Sarah McGee, Annagry, Máire Mhic Pháidín, Carrick, Derrybeg, Dónal Gallagher (Snr.), Meenaniller, Derrybeg and Madge Brogan, Falcarragh.
The following won €500 each: Séamus Friel, Gortahork and Maryann McClafferty, Falcarragh.
The following €200 each: Sheila O’Donnell, Gortahork, Michael Crossan, Bunbeg, Seán Ó Canainn, Falcarragh, Mary and Ian Ferry, Gortahork and Patrick Doogan, Cnoc Fola, Gaoth Dobhair.
