‘Thriving’ local cricket club needs home

AT Wednesday’s Letterkenny/Milford MD, Councillor Michael McBride called for a ‘masterplan’ for council owned lands adjacent to the River Swilly and Neil T Blaney Road to be created as soon as possible to provide a home ground for Letterkenny Cricket Club.

“I think the council ground owned here would be an excellent location for the cricket club. The club are currently struggling to find a home. The club has four adult teams. They are a big part of our community and are thriving.

“The fact that Letterkenny is on the side of a hill is why most local clubs are located on this plain,” Cllr McBride said.

The motion was seconded by newly elected TD Tomás Seán Devine of the Redress Party, who told the meeting it is a big thing and added “we should explore it”.

In their response, the council executive said they would “explore the best mechanism to deliver on the request for a masterplan”.

Cllr Liam Blaney said that in the context of lands in council ownership they must decide on the most appropriate use for it.
