THREE people were airlifted to hospital this afternoon following two separate incidents in west Donegal.

In the first incident, three people got into difficulty in the Gweebarra estuary after their boat capsized at around 3.30 pm.

One of them managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm and Malin Head Coastguard station tasked the Arranmore and Bunbeg lifeboats as well as the Sligo-based air-sea rescue helicopter.
Gardai from Glenties also attended the scene.

One man was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital (LGH) where his condition was described as not serious.

It is believed the men were not from the area and were staying at a holiday home in Ardara.

Meanwhile, as the helicopter was returning from LGH it was diverted to Cruit Island where a man had fallen from a cliff there and suffered head injuries.
He was also airlifted to LGH, but his condition was not know at the time of going to press.
