GARDAÍ have seized three e-scooters in Letterkenny as part of their ongoing efforts to enforce e-scooter regulations.
The move comes as part of a broader campaign to ensure that e-scooter users are adhering to important safety rules.
Gardaí are reminding the public that e-scooter riders must be at least 16 years old and cannot exceed a speed limit of 20kmh.
E-scooters are allowed to be driven on cycle or bus lanes, as well as local, regional and national roads, but riders must always drive on the left.
The scooters must also be equipped with lights, a bell or an audible warning device, reflectors and brakes, and must be kept in a roadworthy condition at all times.
Additionally, e-scooter users are required to follow the same rules of the road as cyclists, including obeying traffic signals, road signs and the instructions of gardaí or school wardens.
At the same time, gardaí have outlined several prohibited actions for e-scooter users.
Users are not allowed to use footpaths or pedestrianised areas, or on motorways.
The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited and e-scooters cannot have seats attached.
Carrying passengers, such as children or goods, like parcels or food deliveries, is also against the rules.
Gardaí have stressed that enforcement will continue in the region to ensure safety for all road users.
