David Knight (36) of 24 Melmore Gardens, Creggan; Joseph McMullan (25) of 5 Kavanagh Court and Noel Lavy (35) of 57 Ballymagowan Avenue are charged with robbing €2,920 in cash, handling stolen cash of €1,510, allowing themselves to be carried in a stolen Royal Mail vehicle and damaging a glass partition at Manorcunningham Post Office.

Judge Paul Kelly heard that Lavy had asked gardai to apologise to the female post office clerk on his behalf saying it was all a bit of madness and they were just trying to get more drugs.

“Tell the woman I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for it to work out the way it did,” he told gardai.
