Thousands without power as ESB warn of more outages

Storm force winds associated with Storm Isha have caused damage to the electricity network across the country with thousands without power in Donegal.

There are almost 3,000 premises in the Milford area without power while 1,600 are without electricity in the Creeslough area.

In the Rossgeir area near Lifford 1,895 ESB customers are without power, 650 in the Ballyraine area of Letterkenny, 490 in Newtowncunningham and 37 in Stranorlar.

Over 1,000 premises are without power in Dungloe and in Inishowen 1,129 premises are impacted in the Ballymacarry area.

Across the country there are more than 170,000 homes, farms and businesses without power. While ESB Networks teams are restoring power where safe to do so, they expect that the number of customers without power will increase as Storm Isha continues to tracks across the country.

Further outages overnight are expected, particularly in the Northwest, with Met Éireann wind warnings remaining in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

An ESB spokesperson said: “ESB Networks continue to monitor the impact of Storm Isha closely, switching customers back remotely where possible. However, due to the extent damage to the network and adverse weather conditions, the majority of homes, farms and businesses currently impacted will remain without supply overnight.

ESB Networks storm response plans have been in effect since earlier today and crews will mobilise again at first light to assess the damage, making the network safe and restoring electricity supply where safe to do so.”
