ALMOST 5,000 students across Donegal began their State Examinations yesterday morning.
Of these, over 2,600 students are sitting the Junior Certificate, while close to 2,100 have commenced the Leaving Certificate. In addition, more than 200 students in the county are taking part in the Leaving Certificate Applied programme.
Nationally, a record number of students are sitting exams this year, with a 5 per cent increase in those undertaking the Leaving Certificate compared to last year.
There has also been an 11 per cent rise in the number of students opting for the Leaving Certificate Applied programme.
Over the next three weeks, approximately four million exam papers will be distributed across more than 15,000 exam centres nationwide, concluding on June 24.
An Garda Síochána in Donegal have issued a special appeal, offering support to students who may be struggling during this challenging time.
“Please look out for each other and if any of your fellow students appear to be struggling, please talk to them and alert a teacher or other trusted adult.
“If you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed in the run up to your exams, feel free to come to any of our Garda Stations and talk to us. We can put you in touch with a support service who will help,” a local garda spokesperson said.
