Irish Road Safety Week (IRSW) began on Monday and continues until Sunday.
A number of events are taking place as part of IRSW here in Donegal such as the ‘Donegal Roadsafe Roadshow’ that is taking place today and tomorrow at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny.
The show is a partnership between the Donegal County Council and members of the Donegal Road Safety working group. The show will be seen by almost 3,000 students from post primary schools and Youthreach Centres from Donegal, Tyrone and Derry over a two-day period.
During the roadshow, the young people are shown what happens when a fatal or a serious injury collision occurs. They hear from a member of An Garda Síochána, an ambulance crew member, a Fire Brigade member, a consultant from the emergency department and a few other guest speakers who bravely share their own personal stories which are always very moving and hard to hear.
The show sends out a very hard hitting message and explains clearly the horrific reality of a serious collision and what the result of that could be and what it could mean for them and their family.
