THOUSANDS of people gathered in Lifford this afternoon to show solidarity with families whose homes are affected by mica.
There was a buoyant atmosphere as those assembled left The Diamond to walk the short distance to Croaghan Heights where a stage had been prepared.
There protest organiser Fearghal Mac Lochlainn spoke of how people power will be pivotal in securing 100 per-cent redress for those whose houses are crumbling due to the presence of mica.

Among the guest speakers were Barry Moore and Tina Bright, both of whose homes have tested positive for the malign element.
Also on the podium was Paddy Diver, the man credited with sparking the mica movement. He in turn introduced Michael Doherty, a member of the Mica Action Group.

Mr Doherty spoke of how September will be an important month in the fight for 100 per-cent compensation. He also outlined the ‘three pillars’ of the campaign – 100 per-cent redress, a State-backed guarantee and finally that no homes be left out of the redress scheme.
