‘This is your day’ Council’s housing staff told

MEMBERS of Donegal County Council’s housing department have been told today is “your day for justice”.

The comments were made by elected members during a meeting convened to discuss a report into the purchase of five homes in Buncrana.

Independent auditing firm BDO Ireland found last week that there was no wrongdoing on the part of Donegal County Council in the buying of the mica-affected properties.

Councillor Frank McBrearty claimed there was “corruption” and “systematic corruption” in the processes leading up to the purchase of the properties.

At today’s meeting in the Aura, housing staff and the families of those living in the homes have heard they have been “totally exonerated” of any wrongdoing.

The meeting is currently suspended due to a dispute involving Councillor McBrearty. It is due to resume in the coming minutes.
