‘Things are positive’ – Kelly

It wasn’t Pat Kelly’s intention to take on the Whitestrand job this season, but needs must, and he says he will give it his all to help his club as they battle for promotion.

Whitestrand were unfortunate not to go up in each of their last two seasons, but just didn’t have enough.

Kelly feels his side is coming on well, and he is looking forward to the year ahead.

“We advertised for a new manager but nobody came forward, so it was just wrapped up in a pretty bow and given to me.

“I said to the boys I will give it 100% for one season and see how we get on.

“I was there before for three or four years, and we did well. We went from the Second Division to the Premier Division, and we had a good wee team.

“We had a decent enough squad again this year, and I don’t think we’re going to be short players.

“I actually was worried that I was maybe signing too many and it would be hard to get everyone a game.

“But Johnny Sweeney, who was our manager last season, gave me a good quote when he said ‘September’s problems soon fade when you’re away to Letterbarrow in March’.
