These ads ‘kneaded’ local people, say local people

GALLAGHER’S Bakehouse has defended its decision to use actors instead of local people in a new ad which celebrates the nationwide launch of their new range of uniquely handcrafted sourdough breads.
Their new campaign, Bread Made Better, features Daniel O’Donnell who is seen going through Ardara chatting with locals all of whom are desperate to hide the secret. In the end though, Daniel wins out and reveals that the handcrafted sourdough of Gallagher’s Bakehouse is indeed one of Donegal’s best kept secrets.
However, none of the “locals” is in fact local.
“You would think that they could have found one or two people from Ardara to use in the ad instead of bringing in actors,” one Ardara man said.
A spokesperson said that the entire shoot was filmed in Ardara.
“With the Gallagher’s Bakehouse story rooted in Ardara we were delighted that so many of the shops and local businesses in the community feature in the film.
“Whilst not all of the people that feature in the film are from the immediate locality of Ardara they are all from or live in the Donegal area,” the spokesperson said.
Until now, Gallagher’s Bakehouse has been available in Donegal, and is now available nationwide in select stores.
Greta Hammel, Chief Marketing Officer for Gallagher’s Bakehouse, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Donegal legend Daniel O’Donnell to celebrate this next step in our growth.”
To further support the launch, Gallaghers Bakehouse bread has also partnered with Donegal’s 2012 All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy and Miss Universe and Dancing with the Stars 2020 contestant Gráinne Gallanagh.
