TEAC Campbell guest house in Gaoth Dobhair will not be opening again this year due to Covid-19. In business since 1986, it can accommodate forty guests and is open all year round.
It’s another big blow to the area after the four star An Chúirt, Gweedore Court Hotel and Earagail Health Club, confirmed last week that it will not reopen for business this summer.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week, Charlie Campbell, who owns Teac Campbell, said that they had taken the decision to err on the side of caution.
“We’re afraid of opening up and someone coming into the house and affecting us or other guests so we think that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
“We wouldn’t travel ourselves this year and we’re not comfortable opening up in the present climate so we’ve decided to err on the side of caution,” he said.
Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, Teac Campbell has been attracting visitors from both the national and international markets for morea than thirty years.
“Ireland would be our number one market, especially this year, and we’re continuing to get requests about availability this week. The Wild Atlantic Way has also opened us up to a huge continental market. It’s been a great boost to Gweedore.
“This area is not well served with accommodation providers and we’re open all year but this thing (coronavirus) is too dangerous. There could be another surge in the next few weeks when everything will go upside down and we would just rather wait until there’s a cure,” he said.
They’re considering opening again in the New Year for the Winter School but, again, that depends on the virus.
“Hopefully next year will be better. There’s been huge positivity next year from the continental market which is always good to hear. It’s been a long time since we turned a penny but there’s more important things in life than money. We’ll be alright,” Mr Campbell said.
