There is no Plan B – hospital manager

BY HARRY WALSH
CURRENT bed pressures at Letterkenny General Hospital are not expected to ease with the provision of 72 new beds, two-thirds of which will be provided in single rooms, which will be in place before the end of September.

The new €22m medical block has been almost complete for well over a year, but its opening was delayed after the main contractor went into receivership in November, 2010.

However, with management taking measures to address significant ongoing financial overruns at LGH, there is concern that any proposed cut-backs may impact on the current level of services, including a possible delay in the provision of the new emergency department.
