The Tullaghobegley Heritage Walking Weekend!

THOSE with a love of the great outdoors are being urged to put their best foot forward and join the Tullaghobegley Heritage Walking Weekend.  This will be the 27th Mountain Walk, taking participants on the scenic journey from Gweedore to Tullaghbegley in Falcarragh.  It is hard to imagine a better way to spend the May Day bank holiday weekend than three days of enjoying the outdoors and learning something of the vast heritage in the scenic Cloughaneely area of West Donegal.  The weekend begins on Friday, May 3, with a talk given by Dr Seosamh Ó Ceallaigh on Colmcille and his associations with the area – Ray Cross, Cnoc na Naomh, Tory Island, to name but a few.

Saturday’s walk is along the Old Railway from Falcarragh Station to Caiseal na gCorr – coming back through Meenderry. Registration is at 10am with the bus leaving Seanbheairic to take hikers to the beginning of the walk. Refreshments are provided afterwards. Saturday is rounded off with a night of talks and entertainment in Ostan Loch Altan.  Finally Sunday’s walk is the 27th annual Mountain Walk from Gaoth Dobhair to Tullach Beaglaoich Graveyard in Falcarragh, following the ancient burial route across the mountains. Registration is in Seanbheairic from 11.30am with the bus leaving from there to the start of walk. Proper boots should be worn and there will be spuds and stew in the Loft afterwards. Organisers would like to thank  John McGinley for his sponsorship and for more information on any of the events, simply contact suibhnem1@ gmail.com. Alternatively ring 0879238132 or 0863323367 or tSeanbheairic on 07491 80655.
