Kathy O’Connor has been organising the ‘Christmas Day Dinner for People on their Own’ appeal for 18 years now.
People can come along to Conwal Parish Hall in Letterkenny and enjoy a sit down meal and more importantly, some friendly company on Christmas Day.
Meals are also distributed around different parts of the county to those living alone, or those in need.
It’s a wonderful idea and its success is down to the generosity of so many people who donate money or food, and those volunteers who give of their time on Christmas day.
They’ll be there to help organise, serve dinners or wash dishes. Others will be out and about delivering meals around town and further beyond.
It’s the perfect example of what Christmas is all about.
It’s a time for families and friends and a time of happiness.
But Christmas can be a difficult part of the year for so many too.
At this time we think of those who have lost loved ones. There will be an empty place at the table on Christmas Day.
We keep in our thoughts the Mooney family in Ramelton.
Paul Mooney lost his life in a road collision on Monday and his funeral took place on Friday.
For Paul’s loved ones, it will be a Christmas of deep sadness.
Hopefully we can all embrace the Christmas spirit this season and even if times are hard, let’s enjoy all the good that it can bring.
From all the team at the Donegal News, happy Christmas.
