The Road to the Railway Vintage Car and Tractor Show

This Sunday, August 24, Donegal Railway Museum will host the flagship event in their Heritage Week programme, the Road to the Railway Vintage Car and Tractor Run.

This year, they’re teaming up with the Bluestack Foundation, with half of all proceeds from the run and raffle going to supporting the incredible work they do for people with additional needs in the community. After a scenic trip, the drivers will be rounding out the afternoon back at the museum, where there will be refreshments provided by the Bluestack Shack and some live traditional music in amongst the historic Donegal railway stock!

While the cars, tractors and other assorted doo-dads are out on the run, the museum will hold a special family-friendly open day with lots to do for both kids and big folks throughout the afternoon. There will be no admission cost for the museum on the day, only donations, and these will all be added to the fund to be split with the Bluestack Foundation.

Donegal Railway Museum Manager Marty Gilroy said in a statement: “We’re keen to have a great celebration to round out Heritage Week at our Road to the Railway event, and we’re delighted that this year’s proceedings will be supporting the fantastic work of the Bluestack Foundation. We want to thank everyone for the support we’ve received so far –in particular the Bluestack Shack for organising the food, O’Donnell’s Music Shop for the entertainment, the local businesses who have sponsored spot prizes, and our own Stephen Doherty for his brilliant work organising and promoting the event. We’re hoping for a really good turnout, and we’d love to see any and all vintage vehicles. We have a few of our own in the museum, and all will be welcome to come see and learn about them on the day.”

Registration starts at 12pm at Donegal Livestock Mart, with a cost of €20 for all vehicles.

As part of their Heritage Week programme, the museum will also be running Heritage Walks of Donegal Town on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd at 12pm, and will be exhibiting their recently donated model of Inver Station at Dunkineely Community Centre from 5.30pm on Friday 22nd as part of the Killaghtee Festival.
