‘The journey for truth and justice starts now’

DONEGAL County Councillor Frank McBrearty has promised to be a political voice for the family and friends of Rebecca Browne on their journey for truth and justice following her tragic death.

Ms Browne (21), who was from the Galliagh area of Derry City, died after she was struck by a garda car on a night out in Buncrana in May 2023.

Now almost two years on, her family say they have been kept in the dark about what happened on the night of her death.

Last month, Ms Browne’s family were informed by a representative of the Garda Ombudsman (GSOC) that the Director of Public Prosecutions in Dublin decided not to prosecute the officer responsible for her death.

It prompted the setting up of the Justice for Rebecca Browne campaign and a protest took place last month.
