A CANADIAN woman has ‘fulfilled a dream’ by walking on the beach in Dunfanaghy where her father and the crew of a Hudson Bomber made an emergency landing 72 years ago.
Ramona Dzinkowski, was at Killyhoey Beach on Monday for a special commemoration, where memories of the twin engine US Lockheed Hudson A28-A plane making the landing after it ran out of fuel, were recalled by some locals.
“It has been a dream of mine since childhood to walk the beach where my father landed in 1942 in the presence of school children, their grandparents and neighbours,” an emotional Romana told the Donegal News.
“Were it not for the kind hospitality and help of the people of Dunfanaghy, I would not be here today,” she said.
Romana’s father, Karl Edward Dzinkowski, from Winnibeg, Canada, was a radio operator and air gunner as part of a four man crew on a World War 2 Lockheed Hudson that made the emergency landing in Dunfanaghy on June 16, 1942.
