Seamus Carr has been a consistent performer in the Donegal Junior League for the best part of the last two decades.
He has been a loyal servant to Cranford United, and also represented Rathmullan Celtic.
Carr has come up against some top quality players, and this week has picked the best 11 (4-4-1-1) he faced.
Caolan McGettigan (Milford United): Caolan has always been a very solid goalkeeper for Milford down through the years. You have to put the ball well away from him to score, and his distribution is great. He’s definitely one of the best ‘keepers about.

Patrick Patton (Rathmullan Celtic): ‘Burger’ was a top quality player. He had a great career with Fanad, and it was no coincidence that Rathmullan had a lot of success when he came back to them. A great reader of the game.
Kieran Gorman (Kilmacrennan Celtic): I went to school with ‘Gorby’ at the Tech in Milford, and you would have seen how good he was even back then. He’s great at organising a defence and very strong in the air. A good man for a bit of craic after a match too!
Shaun McGowan (Ballybofey United): McGowan would have played mainly in midfield for Finn Harps, but we played Ballybofey one day four or five years ago, and he was at centre half. He was by far and away the best player on the field, and it was the simple things he did so well.

Colin Gallagher (Glenree United)
Colin played for us for a few years with Cranford, but he played a good bit with Glenree. Back when I could run, I used to play on the wing, and I went up against Colin, who was left-back. Glenree were going well at the time and won the CT Ball that year I think. Gallagher was a flying machine, and I spent most of the match chasing back towards my own box.
Niall Doherty (Rathmullan Celtic)
My old mate Doherty was the Rathmullan dangerman for a long time. He was unfortunate to do his cruciate when Rathmullan had their best days, but he was still the best dribbler I ever saw. What made him all the more impressive was that you could be sure he hadn’t sat in on the Saturday night either.
Raymond Foy (Castelfin Celtic)
We played against Castlefin in the last game before the lockdown and I was in midfield against Foy. He dominated the match and I couldn’t get anywhere near him. His quality stands out a mile at that level.
Martin McAteer (Kerrykeel ’71)
I’ve played against a lot of good midfielders like Paul Nash, but I’m going to go for Marty McAteer, who was and still is a class act. He could play sweeper or midfield and he was always reliable. Very dangerous from set-pieces too.

Niall Bonner (Drumkeen United)
We had a few tight battles with Drumkeen down through the years, and there was nobody in our dressing room crying when Bonner hung up the boots. He cruised through games and you never knew what he would do next. He had a great left foot too.
Timmy Burke (Kilmacrennan Celtic)
I think Timmy was probably the best player I ever played against. I remember one day he scored four against us and chipped the goalkeeper even though he was standing on his line. A brilliant player.

Kevin McHugh (Kildrum Tigers)
It’s easy to see why Kevin had the career he had because his touch, awareness, and quality are all top notch. We got a good result against Kildrum a few months ago, and managed to do a decent job on McHugh. But he still scored, and that’s the class that he has.
