Daniel Breslin has been one of the most consistent performers in Donegal football circles during the last 15 years.

Breslin also mentioned Paul McGeoghegan (Dunkineely), Benny McLaughlin (Cappry), Peter Doherty (Milford), Eoin Sheridan (Rathmullan), and Timmy Burke (Kilmacrennan) who were strongly considered but just missed out.

Caolan McGettigan (Milford United)

Lee White was always a very good goalkeeper when we played against Lifford, but I’m going to go for Caolan McGettigan of Milford because he was very solid and could make brilliant saves.

Paul ‘Rua’ McBride (Gweedore Celtic)

Paul ‘Rua’ was a super player and he was very important for Gweedore because he made sure they were organised at all times. He also helped to steady up Kilmacrennan in the few years he played for them.

Glenn Hamilton (Kilmacrennan Celtic)

Glenn would have played for a few different teams, but I remember him being very strong when he was with Kilmac. He was quick and hardy and was good in the air.

Aiden Duddy (Dunkineely Celtic)

I had many battles with Aiden down through the years when Dunkineely were at their best. I have no doubt that he could have stepped up and played at a higher level, but he was very dedicated to Dunkineely. A great man off the field too.

Eamonn Cannon (Gweedore Celtic/Glenea United)

Cannon has won it all and done it all with a few different clubs. He is a great player and teams generally do well when he’s playing for them. A tough man who can get stuck in, but can also play plenty too.

Jason Armstrong (Dunkineely Celtic)

Jason might not be as well known as some of the other players, and he had his career cut short with a bad knee injury. But he was a fantastic midfielder for Dunkineely when they were going well. I would have been up against him a lot, and he was a real box-to-box midfielder.

Denis Boyle (Glenea United)

Denis was a brilliant footballer, and technically he was first class with a wand of a left foot. He was always very reliable for Glenea, and I got to play with him for the Oscar Traynor team too and he was excellent.

Darren McElwaine (Convoy Arsenal)

‘Macca’ played most of his career in the Ulster Senior League, but we always say in Killybegs that he cost us a league medal. We were in Division 1 when I was 19 or 20, and we played Convoy just needing to draw to win the league. We were nine points ahead of Convoy who had three games in hand. We were probably too confident and didn’t handle Macca at all and lost 3-0. They won their games in hand and beat us to the league too.

Dara Patton (Rathmullan Celtic)

Dara was a real fox in the box. He might not do a pile for 89 minutes and then he would come up with the winner in the last minute. He was very important for Rathmullan when they won the league. I also played with him for a wee while at Fanad, and he was very good for them too.

Tomas Diver (Gweedore Celtic)

Tomas wasn’t blessed with a huge amount of pace, but he had a great brain and an even better left foot. He knew where the net was and there was one season when he scored something like 30 goals for Gweedore which was incredible.

PJ Hagan (Milford United)

PJ was a real wee terrier. He probably had the best workrate out of all the players in this team. He was small in stature but well able to handle himself too, which probably came from his brother (Hugo) tackling him in the garden. We always had to keep a close eye on PJ when we played Milford.
