Special wishes are extended to Tessie McGettigan from Braide, Lifford, who celebrated her 100th birthday recently.
Tessie is a much-loved neighbour and friend to many and her home was a busy place on her birthday as so many people wanted to call and offer their congratulations on her big day.
Born on November 7,1923, Tessie’s family resided at Albert Terrace in Lifford. She was the eldest of a family of five which also included Tony, James Francis, Rita, and Joan, all of them sadly now deceased.
Their father, James Kelly hailed from Summerhill outside Donegal Town while their mother, Agnes Violet Houston was a native of Derry.
Tessie was married to Robert McGettigan who was originally from Braide and who died in 1998 and their family included a son and a daughter, Karl and Paula.
Tessie’s working life saw her employed in a variety of jobs – including the former Bacon Factory in Letterkenny, operating the tote at Lifford Greyhound Stadium, and she also spent time as a rates collector with Donegal County Council.
For many years she was employed in the G.P. surgery in Lifford and she was delighted that some of the staff members from the surgery were among those to join in the birthday celebrations.
