Terry Ponsonby to be laid to rest on Tuesday

A LETTERKENNY businessman, who passed away suddenly in Spain last week, will be laid to rest in his hometown on Tuesday.

Best known for owning the popular local take-away ‘The Friars Rest’, Terry Ponsonby was a much-loved figure in the Cathedral Town and beyond.

The heart-breaking news of his sudden death came as a shock to all, with many fondly remembering him as “one in a million”.

Sharing his funeral arrangements on social media last night, the team at The Friars Rest remembered their boss as a larger-than-life soul who touched countless lives with his kindness, generosity and good humour.

“Terry was a true friend to many,” a spokesperson said.

“He never turned anyone away, always ready to help when he could.

“His warm heart and big personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Mr Ponsonby’s remains will repose at his home (F93 H3F8) on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 from 12pm to 10pm, with rosary each night at 9pm.

His funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, May 27 at 11am in St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny, followed by burial in Leck Cemetery.

“We welcome all friends, neighbours and customers to come pay their respects and say farewell to a man who meant so much to so many,” a spokesperson continued.

“His loss leaves a space that can never be filled.”

Meanwhile, as a mark of respect, ‘The Friars Rest’ will remain closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

“We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time,” a spokesperson concluded.
