The tournament which was first held in 1989 is to continue this year following the untimely death of Páidí Ó Sé at his home in Ventry on December 15th last. Ó Sé’s tournament has been a strong feature over the last couple of decades and the 2013 variety promises to be an emotive weekend in the Dingle peninsuila.

“Maire Ó Sé and her children would now like the Festival to be a fitting tribute to Paidi and are very grateful for all of the offers of support in the past few days,” said a statement confirming that the competition would go ahead, in the days following the passing of the Kerry football legend.

The 2013 Comortas Peile Páidí Ó Sé will see over 50 teams, representing the 32 counties of Ireland, the UK, 8 major European cities, Dubai, Singapore and China meeting to do battle.

Ó Sé, in the weeks leading up to his death, said of his hope for the tournament: “It is my earnest hope that the 2013 Festival will bring a global dimension to this unique concept and that it will afford the members of the Irish global community who attend, an opportunity to create true friendships and togetherness through the medium of Gaelic Football.”

Ó Sé invited Termon before his passing – and the Donegal Senior Ladies champions will compete in the senior ladies competition, where they will play for The Boar’s Head Trophy.

Among those teams also competing in their grade are Carnacon from Mayo, St Sylvester’s Malahide, Foxrock Cabinteely,  Timahoe from Co Laois, Parnell’s of London and Kerry’s own Listowel.

“It’s a great honour for us as we are the only Ulster ladies club to be invited and this is our first year in the tournament,” said Dara Kelly, the Termon Ladies Board PRO, who is also a player on the Termon team.
