Ten man Harps snatch late draw in Wexford

Wexford 1 Finn Harps 1

Finn Harps struck late to keep the door ajar on their play-off hopes as they drew with Wexford in Ferrycarrig Park.

Jamie Watson poked home in the 94th minute to level the game after Darragh Levingston gave the hosts the lead.

The first half was scoreless, but both sides had chances in the opening ten minutes as Patrick Ferry found himself through but he failed to connect, while Aaron Dobbs had two massive chances inside a minute, one well saved by Rory Kelly and the other headed just over.

The second half was much of the same with Wexford slightly edging it and they got their opener as Dobbs raced onto a long ball forward. The striker tried to dink the ball over Kelly in the goal with two Harps men chasing him and Max Hutchison cleared but only to Levingston who curled into the bottom corner.

Ryan Rainey was shown a red card with 15 minutes to go after throwing an opposition player’s boot off the pitch, resulting in two yellow cards but the Harps pushed late for an equaliser.

BJ Banda should have levelled when he got on the edge of Watson’s low cross but Owen Mason saved with his legs to put it out for a corner.

Kelly came up from the back and he connected with a volley from Flood’s corner which deflected to Watson who levelled in the dying minutes.

The result means the Harps are still nine points behind tonight’s opponents who sit in the final play-off spot and it looks unlikely they can claw it back.
