GARDAI in Letterkenny are investigating a vicious attack on two teenagers by a gang of up to 20 young men on Sunday evening.
The boys, age 17 and 18, were beaten and robbed in the attack in the vicinity of Slieve Sneacht between 9pm and 9.30pm.
It is alleged some of the gang members had a machete, a Samuri sword and a knife in a car.
The mother of one of the victims has described how the gang robbed the teenagers and hit them with a retractable baton.
“They could have been killed. The boys were absolutely terrified,” she said.
“Some of the gang were grown men in their 30’s,” she added.
Her son’s friend was treated in hospital for facial bruises sustained in the assault. Her son had mobile phone, worth €650 stolen as well as bank cards and a quantity of cash.
