TCS awarded prestigious Energy Efficiency Initiative Award

Donegal based Tata Consultancy Services, a global IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation has been awarded the prized Energy Efficiency Initiative Award for its operations in Ireland at the recent Business & Finance ESG Awards event.

Taking place at the Mansion House in Dublin, the awards showcase the successes of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives and examples of best practice.

Attracting over 100 entries from 80 + companies nationwide, the ESG Awards were established to recognise and celebrate individuals and companies who are actively striving to address environmental, social and governance issues.

TCS won its award by demonstrating excellence and delivering best in class under the Energy Efficiency Initiative Award category, sponsored by SSE Airtricity.

TCS’ award entry showcased how the business is committed to deploying an environmental and sustainability strategy at its Letterkenny Global Delivery Centre that is achieving measured carbon footprint reductions on its journey to be net zero by 2025.

The business is using 100% green energy at present, with the goal of becoming energy self-sufficient on site by 2025.

Receiving the award on behalf of TCS, Paul Walker, Head of Administration and Facilities at the TCS Letterkenny Global Delivery Centre said he is really proud of the whole Letterkenny TCS team.

“In addition to the deployment of sensors, timers etc in our building, our employees’ have embraced behavioural changes which have also contributed significantly to conserving energy.

“This has very much been a team effort where everyone together has worked towards the success of achieving this award,” he said.

Judges commended TCS on the many initiatives they have introduced including the installation of 696 solar panels on their Global Delivery Centre site in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, as well as LED lighting in the carparks.

TCS has also established an active Energy Committee which educates employees on ways to be energy efficient.

One such initiative is getting staff to use QR codes to turn on heating and AC systems on site.

A recent global study published by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Microsoft highlights how companies are struggling to measure decarbonization efforts.

Titled ‘Decarbonisation: The Missing Link’, the white paper reveals a clear majority (84 per cent) of major firms have yet to set public science-based targets to reduce direct operational emissions from their supply chains, and that only 11 per cent have disclosed science-based targets in reducing emissions in their supply chains.

Now in their second year, the ESG Awards included some of Ireland’s most influential businesses named as finalists, with winners announced across 15 distinct award categories, in addition to an ‘outstanding individual’ award demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and ESG.
