ELECTION 2024: Tally figures show Declan Meehan could top poll in Milford area

By Dionne Meehan

INDEPENDENT candidate Declan Meehan could top the poll in the Milford area according to today’s tally.

After failing to secure a seat in the 2019 elections, Declan said he is delighted with his tally which was nearly triple of his votes in the previous election.

“I am very happy that I ran on a very progressive and an inclusive ticket, politics of unity rather than division.

“I think the Milford electorate area have responded to that and it looks like I am going to top the poll tomorrow, which is a huge achievement.

“I am very proud of my campaign and I am very proud of the people that have worked with me on that.

“I am so thankful to the people that have voted for me,” he said.

If elected tomorrow, Declan’s top priority is housing.

“It is an umbrella term for so many different issues which obviously takes in defective blocks.

“That is a huge issue for me and a priority going forward and I look forward to working with the 100% Redress councillors that are elected tomorrow as well.

“I will also be focusing on social housing and the maintenance of social housing.

“We have a huge number of houses, very sadly, that are also affected with defective blocks that are council owned and we need a scheme and we need it badly to help the people who are in them.

“I will not forget the people that I have met over the past couple of weeks while out canvasing and I will particularly not forget the people who are paying rent through a tenant who is putting them into conditions like that and are still doing that to this day.

“We need a plan and that is my number one priority,” he concluded.
