In Rathmullan the proceeds of this year’s New Year’s Day swim will go to the local Tidy Towns Group and Pieta House. The event will take place at 12 noon with warming soup available afterwards. There will be a bucket collection with organisers also able to accept cards on the Tap Machine.

In Fanad the New Year’s Day swim will take place at Ballyhiernan bay (Din’s beach) at 2pm in aid of the South African Missions and Fanad Day Centre.

Meanwhile the annual New Year’s Day plunge in aid of the community counselling service – Gemma’s Legacy of Hope will take place at 1pm at Keadue Blockyard.

The organisers said: “This annual splash does much more than raise much needed funds to keep this service available and accessibly in our community throughout the year, it also creates awareness that the service is available here, that it is local, and that it is affordable. The service has supported over 90 individuals locally alone this year. Since its inception in 2021 it has supported over 240 individuals.”

In Newtowncunningham the New Year’s Day swim has been renamed ‘The Patrick Devenney Memorial Swim’ as Patrick was part of the swim team since its inception in 2000. The swim has raised thousands of euros for the Donegal Hospice. This year it is taking place at the Quay Shore at around 12.30 /1pm.

Three local charities will be benefitting from the charity swim at Beach Cottage, Narin, Portnoo which will take place at 3pm sharp today.

All funds raised will go to Downstrands Family Counselling Service, Narin Portnoo & Rossbeg Community Co-Op, Rossbeg & Downstrands Care of the Aged.
