Swilly Rovers withdraw from USL

The Ulster Senior League has been dealt a huge blow with news that Swilly Rovers have withdrawn from the league.

The Ramelton club have struggled in recent years, and they have endured a terrible campaign this season. Two weeks ago, they lost 9-0 to Letterkenny Rovers, while they were defeated 11-0 by Finn Harps Reserves on Sunday.

That proved to be the final straw, and their withdrawl leaves just six teams playing Intermediate football in Donegal.

The USL released a statement saying the following:

“Swilly Rovers have tonight informed the executive committee of the Ulster Senior League that, following a club meeting, they have decided to withdraw from the League.

“Swilly Rovers were one of the founder clubs of the Ulster Senior League in 1986 and the League is disappointed by this outcome.

“The Ulster Senior League committee remain committed to retaining and providing intermediate football in Donegal.”
