SVP gets ready for big move to new shop in Letterkenny

LETTERKENNY Saint Vincent De Paul Society’s shop is on the move to a bigger premises.
The charity shop, which is currently located at Lower Main Street, is moving to the Station Roundabout to the store which was previously Format Computers.
The store is currently being fitted out and is expected to be open by the end of October.
Regional President Rosa Glacken said the new premises will provide much needed extra space for the shop and storage.
“We are on the move and there is great excitement among us and the volunteers. The site is in a good location beside the Station House Roundabout and there is parking there also. We are hoping it will increase our sales and we will also have more space to sort donations.
“The shop is very important to us for income but it is also providing a service for the community,” she said.
The shop provides clothes, shoes, household goods, bed clothes and small piece of furniture that are in good enough condition to sell.
Since reopening after the Covid-19 lockdown, the store has been extremely busy with queues forming outside the store regularly.
Ms Glacken continued, “We have been extremely busy since reopening and it is great for us from an income point of view.
“The big crowds coming through the door have shown us that we really need the new shop to allow us to provide this essential service for the community,” said Ms Glacken.
The charity shop is also in need of additional volunteers to help with the move and also to help sort out daily donations.
Ms Glacken issued a special appeal for extra help.
“If anyone has an hour or two spare, we are very keen to get more volunteers who could help us with the move and sort out donations which will be sold in the new store. The manager and the team of volunteers have been fantastic following the pandemic and getting the new store ready to be open so we are very grateful for that.
“Any bit of extra help would be great to help get us over the line,” she said.
Items on sale in the store are posted on the Saint Vincent De Paul Facebook page and donations are currently being accepted.
