DONEGAL’S latest road victim, Susan Hamilton, will be laid to rest on Inch Island later this morning.
Ms Hamilton (74), from Manorcunningham, tragically lost her life when the car she was driving collided with a van on the R245 at Bunlin Bridge, Milford last Friday.
Her body was removed to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post-mortem examination took place on Tuesday.
The male driver of the van, aged in his 50s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Ms Hamilton is the seventh person to die on Donegal’s roads since the beginning of the year.
A native of Inch Island, she had been living in Manorcunningham for several years with her late husband Joseph, and their family. She was a very popular neighbour and friend and was involved in different community groups in the area over the years, including the old St Columba’s Band.
The mother of four has been remembered by many as a “lovely lady”.
Requiem Mass will take place this morning in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Inch Island at 11am followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Requiem Mass can be viewed on the Fahan Parish YouTube channel.
Ms Hamilton is predeceased by her husband, Joseph, brother, James and her parents, James and Jeannie.
She will be forever missed by her loving daughters, Joanne (Mickey), Amanda (Gerard), Rachel (Kevin), Lisa (Stephen) and her ten grandchildren, Kayla, Joseph, Jack, Jessica, Ciara, Leighton, Jamie, Eoghan, Lily and Michael.
Meanwhile, gardaí have once again appealed for any witnesses to Friday’s fatal collision to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.15pm and 7.45pm on that date are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí,” a garda spokesperson said.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milford Garda Station on (074) 9153060, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
