Super sub Carlin reflects on crucial goal

JONNY Carlin proved to be the hero for Red Hugh’s on Saturday evening, as his stunning goal sent his team to provincial glory.

There appeared to be little on as Carlin picked up the ball outside Limavady’s ’45’ in the 64th minute.

However, he then went on a brilliant run in through the heart of the Wolfhounds defence, and buried the ball in the top corner.

“I just got on the ball and went on a run. I beat the last man and I thought have a go. I couldn’t believe when it went in,” said a delighted Carlin.

“I just thought I would go for it, and I’m over the moon it went in.”

Carlin made a huge impression off the bench just like he did against Con Magee’s and Emyvale, and he said it took a huge collective effort from the whole club to be crowned Ulster Champions.

“Seosamh said to go on and do what I did last week (against Emyvale). He said go on and do your thing and run at them.

“I took his advice and that’s what I did. The boys were telling me it would give them a lift when they saw me coming on, and I was happy to do my bit. It’s just a great win for the club.

“It’s been a brilliant effort right through from our keeper to the corner forward, and the subs, and the backroom team, and our supporters.

“The Cross is a small village and it’s just unreal that we are Ulster Champions.”
