Summer Stars National Reading Adventure 2022

Libraries throughout Donegal are taking part in Summer Stars, the public library reading programme for children which runs from June until the end of August. All children throughout the country are invited to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer. Summer Stars is non-competitive and every child who reads even one book/ ebook is regarded as having completed the programme – and it’s all completely free!

Cathaoirleach of the Donegal Municipal District, Cllr Niamh Kennedy said: “Donegal County Council is delighted to launch this fantastic literacy programme. With a fabulous range of free events in libraries across the county and some free goodies for those taking part, I am sure the children will really enjoy taking part in Summer Stars. It is great to see that our libraries have resumed a full schedule of live events again and that, as always, the service offers a wide range of excellent services for everyone in the community”

This year, children and their families can join arts, crafts and Harry Potter workshops, storytelling, fitness classes, drama sessions and Escape Chest challenges. Children will also get the opportunity to meet local Donegal authors such as Malachy Doyle and Louise Flanagan. Summer Stars will celebrate the Irish Legends Golf Tournament presented by the McGinley Foundation at the Rosapenna Hotel and Golf Resort in August, with its Glow Up a Golf Ball competition, and storytelling sessions in Ionad Achmainne Teaghlaigh Mhíobhaigh.
