DONEGAL boxers were victorious in thirteen divisions at the Ulster 9 Counties Boys/Girls Championships, the finals of which were held on Saturday at the Eglinton ABC.
Six Donegal boxers triumphed in the ring with the remainder victorious by virtue of walkover wins.
Illies Golden Gloves brought back four of the titles, with Cian Moran, Chloe McDaid and Lee Harkin all coming out on top in their finals and Charles Delaney taking a walkover win.
Moran was the winner of the Boy 1 27kgs decider, taking the spoils in an all-Donegal contest against Bundoran’s Jamie Moore.
McDaid defeated Two Castles boxer Grainne Gallagher in the Girl 1 44kgs final while Harkin clinched the Boy 3 53kgs title as he overcame Caolan McIntre from Dungiven to make it three out of three for the Inishowen club.
Raphoe’s promising puncher Oran Devine from Drumucklagh had a superb contest against Eoin McLaughlin, fighting on his home canvas in Eglinton. Devine, though, held sway in a cracking bout to win the Boy 2 46kgs title.
Sean Kelly took the Boy 3 36kgs title after he defeated Colin Maguire of Castleblaney, while Bundoran’s Gerard Oates inflicted defeat on Lisburn’s Thomas Orr in the Boy 1 33kgs final.
Letterkenny’s Matthew Hanlon, Finn Valley’s Eoin McGarrell, Bluestack duo Charlie McDonagh and Owen J Ward, Bundoran’s Adam Clarke, Dunfanaghy’s Bryan Boyle, Clonmany’s Jesse Callaghan and Jamie Pearson of St John Bosco had no luck in their finals.
Seven Donegal boxers were handed walkover wins, including Raphoe’s young starlet Cody Lafferty, the Ballindrait girl taking home the Girl 1 31kgs title, with Shannah Tiffoney (Bundoran, Girl 1 57kgs), Martin Sweeney (St John Bosco, Donegal town, Boy 1 66kgs), Charles Delaney (Illies, Boy 2, 29kgs), Chantel Dixon (Carndonagh, Girl 2 48kgs), Shane Gillespie (Bundoran, Boy 2 54kgs) and Jessica Clarke (Carndonagh Girl 3 42kgs) all confirmed as winners of their respective divisions.
