SUBSTANTIAL damage was caused as a result of a fire at a garage in Killea last night which took a cross border effort to put out. It took units from Derry, Letterkenny and Buncrana three and a half hours to get the fire under control.
The fire caused substantial damage to the building itself, a number of adjacent houses and a vehicle was also destroyed.
A spokesperson for Donegal Fire Service said: “Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to a fire in a small garage in Killea at about 11:10 pm last night, 20 November 2019. Brigades from Derry, Letterkenny and Buncrana responded. The fire caused substantial damage to the building and the loss of one vehicle. A number of adjacent houses also suffered minor damage. The last brigade left the scene at approximately 2:40 am.”
Earlier today Gardai said they had preserved the area for a technical examination to determine the cause of the fire.
They said: “Gardaí were called to the scene of a fire that occurred at approximately 11.15pm on Wednesday 20th November 2019 at a garage in Killea, County Donegal. Fire Services extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.”
