Entries invited for Cathedral Quarter Literary Festival

THE Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter Literary Festival has announced that its 2025 non-fiction competition is now open for submissions.

A huge response is expected this year as the competition has become increasingly popular in recent years.

A spokesperson from the Cathedral Quarter, Donnan Harvey, said “Letterkenny’s Literary Festival is now really taking off from what were very modest beginnings. It’s something we are very proud of.”

“As regular festival goers will know, we in Donegal have many connections with great literary figures, from Jane Austen to Brendan Behan, and other famous writers. And of course we have massive connections with our own home grown talent: Brian Friel, Patrick McGill, William Alingham.”

“But what we want to do is provide a forum for current Irish writers to have their own work brought to a wider audience. We know there is a lot of talent out there and we want to foster it and develop it. Who knows… maybe there is another Jane Austen, Brian Friel or Brendan Behan out there!”

The Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter Literary Festival will run from October 16- October 19. During the festival, five shortlisted writers will be invited to read their entries and the winners will then be announced.

Denise Blake will judge the competition. Blake is known for her poetry and writing as well as her contributions to Sunday miscellany on RTÉ Radio 1.

The Cathedral Quarter have thanked their sponsors, Brennans Pharmacy Letterkenny, Donegal ETB and Three.

There are excellent prizes up for grabs, with the winner to receive €150 and the runner-up to receive €100. Highly commended entries will be awarded vouchers also.

The closing date for entries is August 29. Results will be announced by the end of September.
