A DEFECTIVE block homeowner has spoken out about her terrifying experience of Storm Isha after winds battered Donegal on Sunday night.
Roisin Gallagher, who lives in a semi-detached house in Buncrana, said she was “sure” her gable wall was about to come in as a result of gale force winds.
With fierce winds coming through the cracks and gaps close to where her children lay, Roisin said an emergency response needs to be enacted immediately.
“I have previously called for an emergency to be declared in Donegal.
“An emergency response needs enacted immediately because as we know there is no urgency or will to properly help us right now,” she said.
Describing Storm Isha as being “horrendous” for defective block homeowners, Roisin said a couple had to move their family of six out of their home in the thick of the storm because of fears the gable wall was coming down.
Having no other option but to “brace” themselves as Storm Jocelyn took its tole on the county on Tuesday, Roisin said affected homeowners are living in “terror”.
“There are no contingency plans in place for our homes that are deteriorating daily, she said.
“Again – there is no mention of the defective concrete crisis in the entire 420 pages of the Donegal County Plan 2024-2030.
“If a house had collapsed on Sunday night, if Scally Place, the medical building in Letterkenny, had collapsed- what then?
“What plans are in place?
“Who is coming to save us,” she asked.
Like many, Roisin said she is “worn out” from campaigning, but unfortunately it is “not” working.
