A wind warning will remain in place for Donegal today with storm force conditions expected in coastal areas.
A status yellow warning has been issued by Met Éireann for the entire country until 2am on Friday morning.
The forecaster said westerly winds will be very strong and gusty today, in the west at first, progressing eastwards in the afternoon, reaching storm force at coastal areas of the northwest.
It said possible impacts include downed trees, power outages and travel disruption.
Met Éireann has also issued a status yellow rain warning which will come into force at 12pm on Thursday and remain in place until 12am on Friday.
“Frequent heavy showers or longer spells of rain will lead to localised flooding today and tonight, a Met Éireann spokesperson warned.
